April 19th. The Wind W. moderately warm, very cloudy all day, but yet could not rain; my people all this week at the same work of plowing for Barley. pd. 7d.2/1 for Garden Seed To Day I heard the Cuckow first this year; pd. Margaret verch David y Downsiwr 2s. 6d. for Spinning 10 pound Averdupois [Avoirdupois sw] weight of Hemp. made some little rain on the fall of night. |
20th. The Wind W. blowing fresh & very cold; the Sky clear& Sun - -shiny; the Evening proved very stormy in high winds, and extream cold, which blew all the Evening & all night — The Parson preached on John Chap 5th. verses 67 & 68th. |
21st. The Wind N.W. blowing a great storm all day, & for cold, far exceeding any day within this year (the four last days of December & 2 or 3 in January onely excepted – which were in a few degrees to the hight of Cold, an account where of you have in Pages 361 & 362. ) it is so very dry withall that in severall places they have not water for thier cattle upon the ground where they are. |
22d. The Wind N.W. blowing high and cold, but not near so cold as yesterday; The ground is quite parched up, and not the least sign of a Spring. |
23d. The Wind N.W. pretty moderate in the morning, but blowing high and very cold and scorching in the Evening, Sowed 2 beds of Kidney Beans, one the Common white kind that are climers, the other Bed of the White Battersea Dwarf kind, that bear as standards: sowed a parcell of flower Seeds; & also Thyme, Winter Savoury & Hyssop Seeds. |
24th. The Wind N. moderately calm & warm all day, the Evening dark & cloudy, & made some drops of rain; Paid Wm. – Talant 1L. 1s. in part of his wages for this year. |
25th. The Wind W in the Morning. & made one or two smart showers about Sun rise; The Wind afterwards came to N.W. & blew cold ye rest of ye Day – delivered Wm. Davies 5L. to pay Lucy Wynn's Interest, delivered him ❚zzz❚zzz iL. 17s. 3d. to pay John Hughes of Gwredog the remainder of the money due to him for the Hogs Mr. Wright had. a full fair at LLannerchmedd, & a great buying of Milch Cows & Sheep especially & good rates. |
