May the 7th. The Wind S.E. Sun Shiny, fair, & very sultry but the Wind very scorching, my Servants these 3 last days – fenceing the Hedges betwixt the Corn, & grass, & the Hay, the Lad's work in the Garden all this week is weeding. &c. |
8th. The Wind E. very cold, and raining all the Morning very hard, & the Wind high, the Evening Sun_Shiny & dry, but very cold. |
9th. The Wind N. cloudy and dark, & prodigious cold, my Servants begin to fence the hedges of Cae'r Pyllau in Bryn-Clynni, to fold the Milch kine when they graze at Bodelwyn & Cefn y– Groes, as the Pinfold at Rhôs Garrog folds them now, where they graze at Fferem, and Pen y bont. |
10th. The Wind N. clear & dry, but extream cold all day long – planted some Cauly- flowers out for flowering, & sowed Savory and Hyssop Seeds, and likewise Parsley, Lettuce, spinage, Endive Radish, and Cressess. planted a Row of Scarlet Beans by ye S. Wall– |
iith. The Wind N. very cold still, but not as yesterday, it scorches very much every day, the grass in most places, very poor & short the wind came in the Evening to W. was calm, warm, & serene – supplyed the Gaps in the Rosemary bank by the South wall in the Walk with fresh plants. |
12th. The Wind S.W. dark & cloudy, but warm fine growing weather gelt 9 yearling Calfs to day. Set out to the Cocking at Thomas Edwards the Smith at Amlough (which is for a S[a sw]ck [Nesta Evans gives 'Sack' sw] & Coulter) about 10 . came there about 12. when the Company were all come had but a sorry Cock, cost me 4s.6d. was at home a little after 9 - |
