BETWEEN THE ENTRIES FOR 29 AND 30 JULY THERE IS A SONG, WRITTEN OUT IN HANDWRITING WHICH APPEARS TO BE THAT OF LEWIS MORRIS [see entries 1 and 12 July 1738 for comparison].

The Birks of Endermay.

The smiling morn

the breathing Spring Invite the tunefull birds to sing &

while they warble from Each sprey Love melts ye universal Lay .

Let us amanda timely wife Like them Improve the Hour that flies and in Soft raptures

wast the day among the birks of Endermay .
