January 17th. The Wind S. cloudy dark weather, & cold withal, but made no rain. Yesterday the Election — for an Usher [an assistant teacher at David Hughes School sw] for Beaumares School came on, When Ld. Bulkeley set up one Hughes of Denbigh shire who is Curate of Beaumares; His old friends whom his Father had got to be named ffeofees [trustees of the school sw]· flew in his face, & put up young Vincent of LLanfachreth a Lad of about 19, and got him chose in opposition to the Lord: Vincents' Myrmidions were Mr. Rowlands of Caera, Mr. John Griffith Carreg Lwyd Mr. John Owen Presaddved, Mr. Edward Owen Penrhose, Mr. Hugh Hughes Plâs Côch. & LLoyd Rhosbeirio; the Ld. was so struck with the unexpected opposition that he did not appear but sent his Brother down to expostulate with these Rebels__ that they should presume to dispute his Authority, but they haveing ( tis presumed ) other much greater matters in view, huffed the Ambassadour, & proceeded their own way. how far they'll carry this opposition time onely will shew. |
18th. The Wind S.W. cloudy dark weather & cold, but dry all the day till night when it begun to rain, my people all these days fenceing & repairing the hedges . |
19th. The Wind S. raining long before day, & continuing with- -out any intermission till i in the Evening & then onely for half an hour when it rained again all the rest of the day and a great part of the Night . |
20th. The Wind S. raining long before day very hard, & a hazy mizling rain all the morning afterwards; 2 or 3 hours in the Evening without rain, but at the fall of night it rained very hard again till ii. |
21st. The Wind S.W. calm & fair with a Sun shine in ye Morning about 9 it darkened & begun to rain, which it did for an hour — then grew fair again, but made severall shower afterwards, & rain[e sw]d hard in the night. |
22d. The Wind S. raining very hard long before day, & continued without any intermission till 12 in ye forenoon, the Evening dry, but cold dark and cloudy. Sent to day to Dulas for ye Cart Furniture I had bought at Leverpool for (4 horses in a Team . |
